Joerg Ingo Fraske was born in Berlin, Germany in 1955
and emigrated to the U.S. in 1958. He was graduated
with distinction from Massachusetts College of Art in 1993.
He lives, works, and exhibits in the Boston/Somerville area. "I am a colorist and expressionist; to me, that means that I have a vocabulary of colors and forms, arrangements, that
I use to express and articulate thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Color can be emotional, mysterious, spiritual, or grounding; it
makes me feel and instructs me. We see colors and we hear music, both,
because of wavelengths, so I am influenced as much by the sound of jazz, southeast Asian pop, angelic choirs, or juju music as by painters. I love to be lost in music while I paint. Some favorite painters are R. Diebenkorn, E. Bonnard,J. Rosenquist, Stuart Shils. My work favors color, texture, and strong composition, and is initially based on abstracted landscapes. The forms tend to be biomorphic and/or flora-like. More recently I've been fascinated with multispatial and overlapping oval planes. I work in a vernacularof forms, colors, and textures, that are revealed when I put paint to board. I work and rework directly, no sketches or planning; alwaysprocessing, always intuitive.
